Seitaro Ishikawa was born in Tokyo in 1985. He won 2nd Prize in the Felix Mendelssohn International Conducting Competition in 2016.
In recent years, he has appeared on Japanese television with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, on tour with Ensemble Boswil in Switzerland, and with a Japanese-Korean joint orchestral group as part of a special event at the Seoul Arts Center commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Republic of Korea.
Ishikawa’s conducting repertoire ranges from sacred works by Bach to contemporary music. As a pianist as well, his activities are diverse, ranging from the performance of solo contemporary works to vocal accompaniment.
He has conducted the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, Osaka Symphony Orchestra, Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra, Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, Kobe City Chamber Orchestra, WDR Funkhausorchester, Neue Philharmonie Westfalen, Bergisch Symphoniker, Thessaloniki Symphony Orchestra, Filarmonica de Stat Dinu Lipatti Satu Mare, and Mihail Jora Philharmonic Orchestra.
Ishikawa received piano training from Tatsuya Hayashi and Jura Margulis, and conducting instruction from Yoshikazu Tanaka, Hanns-Martin Schneidt, Gerhard Bosse, and Rüdiger Bohn at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf.
He participated twice in the International Piano Academy Freiburg. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Conducting from Tokyo University of the Arts, where he received the Acanthus Music Prize. Ishikawa also served as assistant conductor to the late Gerhard Bosse, succeeding him as a conductor of the Kobe City Chamber Orchestra’s subscription series. From 2006 to 2016, he appeared annually at the Takefu International Music Festival in central Japan. In 2018, he participated as assistant conductor in the world première of the opera “Benjamin” by Peter Ruzicka at the Hamburg State Opera.
